Costa del Sol region info: Benalmádena
Clamped between Torremolinos and Fuengirola with hardly any space in between… Architecturally Benalmádena is blatantly different. Benalmádena grew at a deliberate pace, the promenade is wide and spacious, supported by a long series of excellent cafés, bars and restaurants. Accompanied by a large beach. The award-winning Puerto Marina is a recent creation and combines residential and office space, numerous restaurants, a number of bars and shops and even a Sealife Centre and is unique in form and scale.
Go a few kilometres inland and you'll reach Benalmádena Pueblo (village), which is the original centre and an authentic Spanish village, complete with quaint Andalusian mansions, cobbled streets and narrow alleyways. Scattered around the town are numerous two, three and four star hotels, all of which are immensely popular with northern European holidaymakers, while the recently constructed residential developments on the northern edge of the town boast a wide cross-section of residents from all over the world. Both cosmopolitan and charming, Benalm is an affordable and accessible destination for both second-home and year-round residents.
Benalmádena has a couple of beautiful beaches, each strip of sand is spotlessly clean making them ideal for families with young children. Water sports enthusiasts will be supported by excellent facilities offered along the beach. Picky eaters will rejoice at the presence of a number of typical Dutch drinking establishments and restaurants.
During the day, Puerto Marina buzzes with activity. Children of all ages will enjoy the Sealife Centre and its miniature golf course, while shoppers can take a stroll along the waterfront, where a number of boutiques, gift shops and craft stores can be found. With a large Pizza Hut, a Ben and Jerry's kiosk and numerous drinking establishments selling highly recognizable alcoholic beverages, you will certainly feel at home ... well, apart from the 30 º C plus heat of the summer months!
Getting away from the coast, Benalmádena also boasts some lovely parks (complete with shady paths and fragrant pine trees), many pretty squares, a maze of quaint and quiet residential streets and some lovely shops.
