La Cala de Mijas
If you drive from Málaga on the coastal road you get a surprisingly sharp bend. Here the coastal road curls around the village of La Cala. The centre has fountains, roundabouts, manicured trees, lined avenues. Decent old Spanish gentlemen stare in bewilderment at the fast-paced town, which has grown around them.
Here you will find chic new apartments in luxury urbanisations, as well as large and luxurious villa's. La Cala is a mix of Expats, tourists and Spaniards but with Spanish prices.
It is also a place where you can find a lot of shops and restaurants.
In a nutshell, the city has everything you need. A large Mercadona supermarket, its own weekly market, sports fields, a beautiful beach, it is located on the coastal road with fast access to all places on the Costa del Sol and the airport. But also lots of bars and restaurants and all kinds of clothes and trinket shops, as well as a 24 hour pharmacy.
In addition, the British have a large community of Scandinavian and Irish residents.
And yet La Cala has the advantages of a typical Spanish village, with a typical Spanish identity.
